For builders

Free, unlimited access. Forever.

Engineers, founders, purchasing managers, industrial designers, lab and shop staff. Pre-register once, get screened once, then walk in as often as you like — and never pay us anything.

Why bother coming in

Because the datasheet
keeps lying to you.

You can read every spec sheet for a tactile switch and still not know which one feels right under a glove. You can compare two gearboxes on paper and not notice that one of them has backlash you can feel by hand. You can specify a connector and find out at DVT that the mating force is wrong for a one-handed service procedure.

Sourcing decisions have a physical component that no amount of PDF will resolve. SFbei exists so that resolving it takes an afternoon instead of three sample orders and eleven days.

About the pre-screening

We verify that you are building something — a company, a lab, a product, a serious project. That is the whole bar. It keeps the floor useful for suppliers, which is what makes them willing to put real inventory on the shelf.

What we don't do

We don't sell your details, we don't hand your contact information to every supplier in the building, and we don't charge you anything, ever. Introductions happen when you ask for them.

Make the visit count

How to get the most out of an afternoon.

01

Search the directory first

Filter by category so you arrive knowing which two or three aisles you actually need.

02

Bring the part

The bracket, the failed connector, the old motor. Half of what happens on the floor starts with somebody putting an object on a bench.

03

Ask for introductions

Tell reception which listings interest you. Named contacts, time zones and languages are on file.

04

Leave with specs, not stock

Catalogs, cards, sometimes a sample — and a live conversation with the person who makes it.

Who comes in

If you specify parts, this floor is for you.

Hardware startups

Pre-seed to Series C teams building their first hundred units, and the ones who just discovered a 26-week lead time.

Robotics & automation

Arm builders, integrators and AMR teams sourcing drivetrain, sensing and end effectors.

AI infrastructure

Rack, edge-box and appliance teams sourcing power delivery, thermal and interconnect.

Medical & lab

Device teams who need documented supply chains and ISO 13485 partners, not a marketplace listing.

Contract manufacturers

EMS and box-build shops sourcing on behalf of their own customers.

Makerspaces & labs

University labs, research groups and shop staff specifying equipment and consumables.

Pre-register

One form.
One screening.
Then walk in.

Registered builders get access from opening day, ahead of the public launch, plus invitations to the mixers and teardowns on the roof deck.

Tell us what you're sourcing and we will flag the suppliers in your categories the moment they confirm — several people have already found what they need before we opened.

Builder questions

What visitors ask us.

Is it really free?
Yes. Builders never pay SFbei anything — no membership, no day pass, no per-introduction fee. Suppliers pay for their placement and that funds the building. Charging engineers to browse would filter for expense accounts rather than for people who are actually building.
What does the screening involve?
A short form and a look at your company, lab or project. We are checking that you build something, not judging what. Most registrations are approved the same week.
Can I bring my team?
Yes. Register each person so we know who is coming, then come as a group as often as you like. For larger groups or a structured tour, ask us and we will schedule it.
Can I buy parts there?
No. Nothing is sold on the floor. You leave with catalogs, specs, cards and an introduction; the purchase happens directly with the supplier afterwards.
Will I get spammed by suppliers?
Not by us. We do not hand your details to exhibitors. When you ask for an introduction we make it, and from that point you are talking to them directly — on your terms.
I'm not in the Bay Area. Is it worth a trip?
If you are sourcing across several categories, probably. People fly to trade shows for less. Tell us what you're looking for when you register and we will tell you honestly whether the floor covers it yet.
