Technical Floor Lead

Be the person on the floor who actually knows. Engineers describe a problem; you walk them to the three suppliers who can solve it and make the introduction.

Contract
Full-time
Location
On-site, San Francisco
Range

About the role

This is the role that makes SFbei worth visiting. A purchasing manager arrives with a bracket and a vague requirement; twenty minutes later they have handled six options and have two named contacts. You are the reason that happens.

You will know the catalog of every exhibitor on your floors, keep the demo bays running, and be the technical voice in the building — including telling a visitor honestly when we don't have what they need.

What you'll do

  • Learn the floor: every exhibitor, category, spec range, lead time and certification.
  • Host walk-ins — understand the requirement, then route it to the right shelves.
  • Make warm introductions to named supplier contacts and follow through.
  • Keep the demo bays commissioned and safe; support suppliers running live equipment.
  • Curate and maintain the sample library.
  • Run category deep-dives and teardown nights alongside the events team.
  • Log every sourcing gap. What we can't answer becomes the recruitment list.

What we're looking for

  • An engineering background — mechanical, electrical or mechatronics — and real exposure to specifying components, not just designing around them.
  • Two to six years in application engineering, field engineering, technical sales or hands-on product development.
  • You enjoy explaining things to people who know less than you without making them feel it.
  • You are comfortable being wrong in public and saying so.
  • On-site five days a week; this job does not exist remotely.

Nice to have

  • Robotics, automation or medical-device experience.
  • You have specified a BOM that shipped in volume.
  • Comfortable with hand tools and a bench.

Compensation

$115,000 – $145,000. The range is real and we will pay within it based on what you bring, not on what you earned before. Early hires also receive equity, explained with the maths shown. Medical, dental and vision are covered for you and your dependants.

The honest caveats

The building opens in 2027. Until then this job involves more planning, recruiting and spreadsheet work than floor work, and the floor work is the fun part. We are a small team, so job descriptions are indicative rather than exhaustive. And it is genuinely on-site — if you need remote flexibility, this role will make you unhappy.

How to apply

Use the form below. A CV or LinkedIn and a few specific lines about why this role. No cover letter theatre, no take-home exercise.

Equal opportunity

We hire on what you can do. We do not discriminate on race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or veteran status, and we will make reasonable adjustments to the process — just tell us what you need.
